Seeing that the card wasn't reaching its maximum boost speed constantly, we first increased the power limit to its maximum value of 150 percent. This saw 1,330MHz maintained without fault, indicating that this card is power-limited by default – unsurprising for an RX 480.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to get much more out of the core than that. In the end, 1,350MHz was our limit, and even adding up to 150mV more voltage wasn't enough to keep things stable beyond that. This is an overclock of just 1.5 percent.

The memory was more amenable, hitting 2.225GHz for an effective speed of 8.9Gbps; an 11 percent increase.

System power consumption with these speeds was 35W higher than with the card running at its default settings. There was no major impact on GPU temperature or fan speed, however, so the cooler took the increased load in its stride.
